As a result of COVID-19, some of our clients have relocated their interstate employees to Western Australia meaning these workers have not been commuting home for their R&R. Instead they are isolating in WA at hotels with only virtual family contact. Some of these employees have not been home for 4-6 months and may not be home for a while. Although practiced at reunions and separations, FIFO workers may not anticipate adjustment issues for themselves or their families as a result of this protracted absence. In our experience on military deployments and from working overseas, there are some potential landmines you want to avoid when you transition home. Here we share some of our top tips for adjusting home after a long period away.
